Several reasons! So much of what our dogs eat is over processed and stale. Store bought treats have been sitting on a shelf for who knows how long and are no longer fresh when your dog gets them. Squirrel treats are baked fresh with each order. They are made with all natural human grade ingredients. Love goes into every bag. And in the case of the Elvis Pupsley treats, bacon does too and who doesn’t love bacon?!

How big are the dog treats?

The dog treats are thin, almost wafer like and measure about 2 inches in width, they can easily be broken down into smaller pieces.

Are the dog treats grain free?

Squirrel dog treats are soy, wheat and corn free. They are made with oat flour which is gluten free and easily digestible even for pups with sensitive tummies.

How long will the treats last?

A bag of treats left on the counter will last 3-4 months. If you need it to last longer, refrigeration is recommended.

How do I know what size bandana my dog wears?

Loosely measure around your dog’s neck. If you do not have a tape measure you can use a length of string then measure the string on a flat ruler. If your dog is between sizes or extra fluffy, size up to the next larger size.

My dog weighs 40lbs, what size bandana should I buy?

Weight is not always a good determinant of neck size so I hesitate to assign weights to the sizing. Think of pugs and bulldogs with necks that are not very proportionate to their body weight. Measuring the dog’s neck will be the most accurate way to determine size, however, for most average shaped dogs the following weights would apply: XS 8-11 lbs, S 11-20 lbs, M 20-40 lbs, L 40-60 lbs, XL 60-90 lbs, XXL 90+lbs

The bandana prints are so cute, where do you get your fabric?

Shopping for bandana fabric is one of my favorite aspects of creating for Squirrel. I choose 100% quilters cotton from local and online sources. I feel that you and your pet deserve a unique print in a high quality fabric that will wash and wear well for years to come. For that reason, I avoid buying fabric at big box stores, the quality is poor and it doesn’t stand up to frequent washings. Locally, I like Digs, Knit and Bolt, and SR Harris, check them out for your own sewing projects. I also have my secret sources of reputable online companies that give back to their communities and carry the quality and prints I love.

Is the catnip organic? How long will it last?

People are often surprised by how potent our catnip is and frequently share their stories of their cat’s obsession with a Squirrel toy (cat people love to talk about their cats!). Based on their feedback, the catnip will stay fresh for at least a year though some folks have shared that their cats still play with their Kickers and Wampas after 2 years.

Can I refill the catnip in the Catty Wampas?

The Catty Wampas are not refillable. However, there are ways to extend the life of your catnip toy. When not in use, you can keep toys in the freezer or in a sealable container like a tupperware or plastic bag. It is not uncommon for cats (and dogs) to get bored with toys that they have continued access to. By removing the toy for a period of time then bringing it back is very exciting to them. Bending and squeezing the toy releases the oils in the catnip to further entice your feline friends and you can even sprinkle fresh catnip on an old toy if you don’t mind vacuuming after play.

My cat doesn’t like catnip, do you have toys without catnip?

Yes! The Wool Rattlers are very popular with all cats and contain no catnip. Some cats are naturally attracted to wool and will play with these balls for hours.

Do you have a dog?

I do, I have 2! My pups are my babies and the source of my inspiration for Squirrel. Both my girls are rescued pit bulls and sweet as can be. They work hard as models for product photos and taste testers for each batch of treats made. You can follow their adventures @atailof2pitties on Instagram and Facebook.

Do you have a cat?

I do not at this time. I test all my cat products out on my friend’s kitties and my mom’s cat, Bella. They all swear that Squirrel cat toys are the best!

Can I put a dog bandana or bow tie on my cat?

Yes, but she may not like it very much!
